Going paperless

Hey, so my dean posted in our WhatsApp group that they’re cutting costs for the midterm by reducing paper use. Yup, you heard me, paper!

I’m not entirely sure why they’re going this route, but I still think paper’s got a role in education. This change is nudging us lecturers to ditch essays and switch to multiple-choice tests. If it’s about saving money, cool, but there’s gotta be other ways to do this, right? Like asking students to bring their own paper or shifting everything online with an LMS.

Honestly, my take based on what I know as of now is to go fully digital with tests on the LMS or maybe even skip midterms altogether and just focus on a final exam at the semester’s end. That said, this is just my opinion based on the info I’ve got at the moment, and I’m open to other ideas if there’s more to consider!
